Dr Deborah Haarsma

Dr Deborah Haarsma is Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Calvin College in Grand Rapids. She studied both physics and music as an undergraduate and received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. This was followed by a PhD in astrophysics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her current research is on galaxy formation and galaxy clusters.

Deborah often speaks on science and faith to a variety of audiences and has recently co-written a book entitled Origins: A Reformed Look at Creation, Design, and Evolution that aims to help those in the church understand the issues. She is married to Loren Haarsma, who is also a physics professor at Calvin College, and they are active in their church. She enjoys reading science fiction and Jane Austen, and recently took up running.
